The algorithm is very simple so that we can maintain a high framerate when running the sketch. I am using RGB colors and presorting them into a list. Ryan does the measurement to LAB and then does a conversion to RGB. Incorporating travel and interviews into my work was a new way of working for me, as most of my work is interactive or game-based. It was good to get feedback from the lab, although the conversations seemed to die out after the first few weeks. It was especially helpful to have expressed my ideas in writing before traveling to Guyana, as it was easy to stray from what I initially felt the project should be. At the moment the final product seems to be leaning more toward short video, but I imagine I will …
read more

I am proposing here a mode of presentation based on a series of objects as props: rotating projections on suspended screens accompanied by sculptural wooden cylinders that begin to rotate when sitted by a member of the public. This brings to the foreground the element of mediation, through its co-ordination within the space of the real-time live event, investigating its involvement in the cognitive process and sensual experience of the public.

Could you precisely explain the various options for "rating" - or

Hi Staurt. Great start to the project and I think you bring up a few interesting questions. I’m particularly interested in your points about free-will. What are your view points on free-will, or more directly how do you personally perceive free-will. Do you consider it a question of weather causal determination is true or not? Also is the piece of work aiming to clarify this question and ultimately take a side or only highlight its existence?

While having others try it out, the feedback that I generally get is that it falls in some sort of uncomfortable place between a useful design object and an obvious art piece. I'm very interested in this space, but I think sometimes in seeking it out I end up with work that is too subtle for many people to connect with or understand.

Yes, I would definitely site Graffiti Research Lab as a contextual reference in this work; I'm especially fond of the laser tagger so I'm a little bit jealous that you've seen it live ;)
As I also mentioned in reply to Susan, I have similar experience that one cannot assume audience members will respond to invitations to participate and am aware that this is possibly the most significant challenge I will work with in this project.
Susan wrote: Interesting thesis. I especially like the dense knitting together a number of different ideas and thematic sources. The fetishization of the photographic close-up of the human body-fragment parallels the fetishization at the bottom of art as a "system of values" (or, commodity-based aesthetics). But, the fetish freezes the eye and stops time, as these images seem to do.
It's hard to understand without actually having the "clickable image" here.
I'd like to know more about the aspect of media and the interactivity between image and observer that you write about, and its political nature.
